2SLGBTQ+ Resources
As part of the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District's continued efforts to ensure a safe, caring, and socially-just educational experience for students,
the following are some resources available for students, families and staff. of the two-spirited, lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender communities or those who may identify as queer or questioning (2SLGBTQ+). The resources below offer advice and support to both individuals and their loved ones:
- Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity
- Egale - Canada Human Rights Trust
- Day Against Homophobia
- NL Sexual Health Centre
- PFLAG Canada
- Parents of Trans and Gender Diverse Kids - A welcoming and affirming peer support group for parents of trans, two-spirit and gender diverse children, youth and adults. Partnered with the Trans Youth Group for youth 12-18 yrs.
June 2021 PRIDE Initiative - #Pride365NL
The District is challenging all schools to 'Show Your True Colours' for the next 365 days! Schools and GSAs are encouraged to hold some form of learning or fun-filled initiative once a month, every month starting now and throughout the upcoming school year. We recognize that July and August are missing from our school calendars, so we encourage you to 'double up' in June and September, to help ensure students feel recognized and supported, particularly as they begin and end their school years.
Check out this #Pride365NL resource for suggestions and ideas. (Please note, students and staff may need to be logged into the Google accounts in order to access some resources).
Please see the following resources developed for Newfoundland and Labrador schools as part of planned outreach as part of the "Free to be Me" Conferences throughout our schools
Students who may be thinking of attending post-secondary studies at Memorial University of Newfoundland in the coming months may find this network useful:
- Quadrangle NL - An organization creating a shared provincial community space for members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community
Additionally, through the establishment of GSA initiatives throughout Newfoundland and Labrador schools, the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development has provided the following document full of potential resources for LGBTQ individuals and families to access services within the province:
