The Board of Trustees of the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District has recently undertaken a review of James Cook Memorial with the potential
for the school to close and students attend White Hills Academy beginning in September 2018. The process included consultation with school councils, administrators, and the school communities.
The following motion was table at the February 3, 2018 meeting of the Board of Trustees:
WHEREAS the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District is committed to providing the best possible educational programs for students; and,
WHEREAS school closure is required to achieve that objective;
BE IT RESOLVED that:
James Cook Memorial will close effective June 2018 and students will be rezoned to attend White Hills Academy effective September 2018.
The motion did not pass and James Cook Memorial will remain open for the 2018-2019 school year.
Correspondence provided to the school community can be found below.
The Newfoundland and Labrador English School District has compiled an information booklet which contains details about the impacted schools. Members of the school community are encouraged to review the information booklet and then provide feedback to the District.
Please find below the recent Board meeting presentation of the school system review.
The Board of Trustees would like to thank all members of the school community who provided their feedback throughout
the process and also to the school councils and administrations of both schools for their invaluable contributions.
