The Newfoundland and Labrador English School Board is undertaking a review of the Appalachia High School System with the potential for Our Lady of Mercy Elementary and Appalachia High School to become one K-12 school, beginning in September 2018. The process includes consultation with school councils, administrators, and the school communities.
Correspondence provided to the school community can be found below.
The Newfoundland and Labrador English School District has compiled an information booklet which contains details about the impacted schools. Members of the school community are encouraged to review the information booklet and then provide feedback to the District.
School community feedback and other information will be reviewed by the Board of Trustees. It is extremely important for members of the school community to provide their feedback during this process and an online feedback form has been established with a link found below. Online feedback will be accepted until Thursday, November 16, 2017.
Should the Board decide to proceed with the process to review the Appalachia High School system a notice of motion will be made at the public meeting of the Board of Trustees scheduled for November 25, 2017 in St. John's. If a notice of motion is made a school community meeting will be scheduled for January 2018 and a further opportunity for the school community to submit online feedback will be provided. A vote on the notice of motion would occur at the February 3, 2018 meeting of the Board of Trustees.
