The Newfoundland and Labrador English School District is in regular contact with the Department of Health and Community Service and relevant public health agencies as the situation surrounding COVID-19 ('Novel Coronavirus') evolves. This includes information related to any relevant variant strains of the virus. As with all matters of public health, the District will continue to take guidance from the Provincial Government and public health authorities in supporting our school communities.

In September, 2020 the District released the following plan to assist efforts to reopen schools safely: District plans are guided by the following advice from public health and the Provincial Government:

PLEASE NOTE: Following updated public health guidance for K-12 Education, high school students who are currently attending online classes will move into a blended learning model. Under this modified Scenario 2 approach, high school classes will be split into two groups and students will alternate between in-class instruction and online attendance, with access five days each week. On days when students are not physically in class, they will be able to access the classroom remotely with their peers via Google Classroom. These changes will take effect throughout the province starting onWednesday, April 14. More information is available in a joint news release issued with the Provincial Government: April 7 Provincial Government News Release.

In order to assist school communities with questions that may arise, the District has created the following LIVE document:

Schools and individuals should consult the Daily COVID-19 Screening Questionnaire before heading out into the community, particularly if they were planning to interact with the physical school environment at this time.
