Full time permanent position for Senior Education Officer (Student Support Services). Duties to commence September 1, 2017.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Under the direction of the CEO/Director of Education and reporting to the Assistant Director of Education (Programs), the Senior Education Officer will be responsible for managing an effective learning support system for students with exceptionalities and for managing counselling services for all students throughout the District. S/he will manage the support services planning process for the district, including comprehensive and continuing assessment models, the development of ISSP's, the provision of levels of instruction and programming appropriate to the individual students' learning needs, and the provision of appropriate service coordination and transitional planning. S/he will develop policies which delineate the responsibility of schools to establish a student support services planning process, manage the resources targeted directly for special education services, ensure that Safe and Caring Schools policies are and implemented, monitor the achievement of student outcomes on individual support services plans, and develop and deliver professional development programs for all student support services staff. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS *Master's Degree in Education (Special Educational Psychologist, or other acceptable specialization relevant to the duties of this position). *Minimum of ten years of successful experience in education with at least five years of successful experience at a senior administrative level. *A thorough and working knowledge of Department policy as it pertains to Service Delivery Models for Students with Exceptionalities, Individual Support Services Plans, and the Coordination of Services to Children and Youth in Newfoundland and Labrador. *Strong supervisory, team-building, time management, analytical and problem-solving skills. *Mastery of basic concepts in professional learning communities/organizations. *Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written. *A thorough understanding of the role of Student Assistants in delivering student support services *Awareness of educational issues throughout the entire region to be served by the School District. *Ability to provide progressive leadership to the Special Services Team.
