Parent/Guardian information sessions for the Late French Immersion Program (LFI) that will begin in September 2018 have been announced. As this program begins in Grade 7, these sessions are for parents/guardians of current Grade 6 students who are interested in learning more about the program. Those interested can attend the session date that is most convient for them, irregardless of location. All sessions will begin at 7:00 p.m. - the following dates and locations have been scheduled:

Throughout the year the Newfoundland and English School District seeks the work of Artists, Cultural Mentors, Festival Adjudicators and Workshop Clinicians to work with teachers and students on projects and at events in the arts and cultural heritage.
In addition, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador's Cultural Connections Strategy allows teachers throughout the province to apply for professional development in and through the arts and heritage. As outlined under the Cultural Connections Strategy there are a variety of projects (i.e. Learning Educating and Growing Arts and culture for Youth (LEGACY), Professional Learning in Arts and Culture with Ease (PLACE) available to meet teachers' arts related professional goals and learning opportunities.
To assist teachers and NLESD programs staff in finding qualified artists and tradition bearers in their local areas for submitted projects, the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District (NLESD) is seeking artists, clinicians, mentors who are interested in working with k-12 teachers and students at arts and cultural events throughout the year.
Please note that filling in this survey (link here and below) does not guarantee you will be selected to work with a teacher in your discipline, it merely indicates that you wish to be contacted should a project be available in an arts/heritage discipline that applies to you.

As a number of new schools open for the first time for the 2017-18 school year, their administrators and staff are opening the doors to the community to show their new learning space. The following schools will hold an Open House at the dates and times listed below:
- Gander Elementary - Curriculum night takes place Wednesday, September 27 at 6:30 pm. Directly following, the school will hold an Open House for those interested in viewing the building.

Trustees and staff members of the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District congratulate Brian Shortall, Executive Director of the Newfoundland and Labrador School Boards Association on the receipt of national honours. At recent meetings of the Canadian School Boards Association, Shortall was awarded Honourary Membership of the Canadian School Boards Association for his outstanding contribution, leadership, and unwavering commitment for quality education for all Canadian students.

The Newfoundland and Labrador English School District is pleased to share news that later this month, 19 students from throughout the province have been selected for a European tour to retrace the journey taken by the Royal Newfoundland Regiment in the First World War. Students were awarded the opportunity as part of the Historic Sites Association of Newfoundland and Labrador's (HSA) Ambassador Program offered through their regional heritage fairs. Students will depart June 28th for a memorable adventure.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Education Foundation has announced the winners of the 2016-17 Educator's Innovation Awards and Grants Program.
A total of 10 awards and 10 grants are being provided to deserving educators throughout the District.

The Newfoundland and Labrador English School District is proud of the participation of many of our schools in the Skills Canada program, which aims to encourage and support a coordinated Canadian approach to promoting skilled trades and technologies to youth. At the national competition held May 31 - June 3 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the 49 members of Team Newfoundland helped to bring home some 12 medals. Congratulations to all participants and medal winners, particularly the following students from District schools:
